A beer dinner at Food 101? Hell yeah!

A sneak peek of the 3rd course, the Braised Short Rib with Red Wine Reduction. I salivated when I took this shot!
Yes! I’m hosting another beer dinner March 5th and it looks awesome!

Cheers Beer Lovers!

Not only am I a proud gourmand, but I when I pair it with some of the world’s best beers that complement gourmet fare, it results in an unforgettable dining experience. Having hosted beer dinners in the past including the last one with SaltYard here and ongoing Girl Scout Cookie pairing with Hop City and ScoutMob that sold out here, my next one at Sandy Springs’ award-winning Food 101 is going to be pretty damn awesome on Thursday, March 5th!
My first session during the Girl Scout Cookie Pairing last Monday.
I came up with the theme of season hopping, meaning we will include some hearty dishes to keep us warm during the winter while simultaneously ushering the blossoming vibe of the spring. Hence, the name “Season Hopping.” (Did you catch the “hop” reference too?) Besides the sneak peek at the Short Rib course above, here is the full menu below and a description brilliantly written by Green Olive’s Henri Hollis. Please book a seat here and come through. Along with eating and drinking in bliss, there will certainly be some other surprises in store (like I usually do). Shout out to the very talented Executive Chef Justin Keith and Sous Chef Cooper Sweat who plan on putting permanent smiles on your faces!
Thanks in advance for booking your reservation. For a mere $50 for five courses, you can’t lose! (Come on, poutine?!)
Keep in mind that any dietary restrictions will be catered to if you call ahead. 404.497.9700

Cheers!

Food 101 Sends The Cold Back North With “Season Hopping” Beer Dinner
Atlanta’s favorite southern eatery is partnering with Ale Sharpton to squeeze the last few drops out of winter and celebrate the coming spring with a menu and beverages inspired by the seasons’ transitions

In the South, indulging in decadent food is one of winter’s only redeeming qualities. However, with the dawn of spring around the corner, green creeps back into the landscape and our diets. On Thursday, March 5, Executive Chef Justin Keith, Sous Chef Cooper Sweat and Atlanta’s favorite beer critic Ale Sharpton will team up to create a dining experience that perfectly captures this moment on the Southern calendar. The four course dinner (with an amuse bouche to start) includes the best of both worlds – a little of the decadence of winter, along with a bit of the lightness and excitement of spring. Each course will be paired with a brew handpicked by Ale Sharpton to perfectly complement both the season and the dish.

Here are six awesome beer events you can’t miss!

This was the Secret Stash Bash trophy in 2014. Who will win it this year?! I took this when TMAC's Head Honcho
Adam  Anacker proudly held this up last year.
From Brick Store’s Changing of the Guard to Secret Stash Bash (plus my beer dinner), make plans now!

Whaddup!!!

With so much poppin’ off in ATL to end the month of February and then make the big step into March, I had to post a few of the events starting with tomorrow’s Changing of The Guard at the Brick Store, one of the world’s most revered beer bars. To add on a personal note, I just completed the first session of my sold out (Thank You!) Girl Scout Cookie Beer Pairing with Hop City and Scout Mob at Krog Street Market; the final two sessions are next Monday. As a follow up, I have a beer dinner themed around merging winter and spring justly titled Season Hopping with the award-winning restaurant Food 101 in Sandy Springs on March 5th at 7:00. I am about to post the full menu and details in a separate post, but for now, here is what’s in store for the next two weeks that I figured to be super dope.
Thanks so much for your support via physical mailings, Tweets, Instagrams, and any other shout outs you have given me. Seriously, I appreciate you.
Okay, here we go…

It's gonna be nuts!

Girl Scout Cookies and Beer? Let’s rock!

My dude Kraig Torres of Hop City couldn't wait until after the photo shoot to bite a cookie. (Dope photos by Laura Relyea/ScoutMob)
Come by Krog Street Market and try this one-of-kind pairing with me, Hop  City and Scout Mob!

Hey Y’all!

The word is out about my upcoming Girl Scout Cookie and Beer Pairing next Monday, February 23rd, and again on March 2nd, and I wanted to give you a personal account on the blog. (That’s what it’s here for, right?)
Well, I worked with ScoutMob before when they did a feature on me, so when the idea of pairing beers with Girl Scout Cookies surfaced (marketing guru Bill Kaelin was seminal to this by the way), there was no better place to do it than the Hop City based in Inman Park's newest shopping sensation, Krog Street Market. Besides their jaw-dropping bottle section, Hop City has an adjacent bar based in the main atrium featuring more than 400 beers on tap! To add, the super cool and knowledgeable Kraig Torres—the owner of Hop City—and I have a bit of history because I actually helped him open his first of three locations on the west side of town a few years ago. Since then, we have always stayed in touch and, of course, he saw me frequently buy from his locations (he also has one in Birmingham). Anyway, after meeting up with everyone and doing a test run, things worked perfectly and now it’s officially a go!
Now, due to my education as a Cornell University Hotelie, plus having an extensive background in the culinary arts thanks to my family’s catering history and especially my mom and sister Simone’s mastery in the kitchen, I know flavor. (I am also no slouch with the pots either, but that’s another story.) Combine that for my love for beer, and it only makes sense to encourage, promote, curate and host pairings with fare any time possible. This one is my most eccentric to date and I happily accept the challenge. I mean sheesh, ales and lagers can be chocolately, smoky, citrusy, earthy, fruity, sour, roasty… Pair them with those irresistible baked circles of oral pleasure and it’s a match made in heaven!
I hope you get a chance to book a seat and maybe treat a companion while we enjoy the awesome cookies everybody and their mommas love. Of course, everyone has a favorite (I freeze my Thin Mints), so look for at least four variations. And like all of my events, there will be some other surprises as well. Here is the link to the witty write up by ScoutMob’s Laura Relyea along with a link to the tickets. (She took the photos too.)
I hope to see you there!
Some quick facts:
·         It will be seated
·         There will be a beer with each cookie selection
·         You will get more than one cookie (unless it's the really rich, think ones!)
·         There are two shifts each night, so four different time slots are available
·         Kraig and I will both be hosting this one so attention will be spread around.

Oh yeah! I have a beer dinner coming up with the slick eatery Food 101 on March 5th as well so stay tuned for that too!

Much love and thanks!
